DAPHNA Nissenbaum, CEO and co-founder of compostable flexible packaging specialist TIPA has become a member of a new bureau of environmental experts.
The Expert Bureau, run by communications agency Higginson Strategy, provides media access to environmental voices. Nissenbaum will provide expertise on issues including plastic alternatives, compostable packaging and the need for innovative materials and new technologies to achieve a green recovery from plastics pollution.
The Bureau, which launched on June 11, brings together specialists from the fields of business, finance, health and education.
To mark the launch, a Populus poll of 1,190 UK adults was commissioned, which revealed strong trust in experts has grown dramatically as a result of listening to specialist guidance during the Covid-19 pandemic. 71% said they were now more likely to listen to expert advice than before the crisis.
The poll also revealed that 18 to 34-year-olds (72%) have a slightly stronger inclination to listen to expert advice when compared to 35 to 65-year-olds (69%). Additionally, the survey showed women (74%) are more likely to follow expert guidance than men (68%).
Daphna Nissenbaum said, “Our current plastics addiction and flawed plastics recycling strategy are causing untold damage to our oceans, wildlife, natural areas and health. If we are to avoid a climate catastrophe, the time for action is now. There is an opportunity for the world to pivot to a more sustainable circular economy by increasing our use of compostable materials. I’m looking forward to collaborating with other environmental experts in the Bureau to help ignite this change.”
