THE UK Government has made investment of up to £1 million in funding available to early-stage sustainable plastic packaging solutions.
Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), will oversee the scheme with the intentions being to increase research and innovation spend on sustainable plastic packaging; deliver research and innovation to support more sustainable plastic packaging in line with the UK Plastics Pact targets; and increase UK plastic packaging supply chain collaboration.
To be considered for funding, projects must help make the plastic packaging supply chain more circular, deliver the targets of the UK Plastics Pact, improve on current ‘state-of-the-art’ plastic packaging while maintaining practical and close-to-market solutions.
Projects which do not have plastic packaging as the primary focus; encourage or facilitate the export of plastic packaging while still classified as waste; or use or manufacture either a liquid or a solid fuel as the primary cost, will not be considered Innovate UK has said.
Applicants can apply for between £30,000 to £100,000 in funding.
