FOOD packaging supplier RAP has scooped a European Carton Excellence Award in the ‘Innovative Material’ category for its MA RapTray.
Judges cited RAP’s use of modified atmosphere (MA) technology, commenting on its lightweight material and ability to “hold meals totally hygienically” and offer of carton material that means replacing plastic food containers.
Described by RAP as the world’s first MA carton tray, the RapTray is said to seal in freshness and extend product shelf life for up to 28 days.
It is also 20% lighter than plastic versions and reduces oil-based plastics by up to 85%, the firm said.
Commenting on the win, Graham Williams, chief executive of RAP said, “This is recognition of our technologists’ work, and our unwavering goal to lead on sustainability and to set the agenda in the food-to-go packaging industry.”
