SICK has unveiled a new integrated quality control system which the firm claims ensures the right packaging is always used for the right product.
The Inline Code Matcher is said to prevent the risk of wasteful rejects, safety issues or customer returns. The stand-alone system can be retrofitted to existing packaging lines.
The system matches 1D or 2D code data on products and packs, and automatically compares them to the pre-assigned product packing list. The modular system is based on SICK’s Lector 620 image-based code readers.
A signal is delivered when mismatches are detected.
Mark Harris, SICK’s UK product manager for auto-identification and systems explained, “The Inline Code Matcher will easily pay you back by avoiding customer returns and fines, or even food safety incidents; the economics are that simple.
“It’s a modular and highly flexible system that can be very simply and affordably retrofitted in any production environment and will work reliably even in poorly lit areas. You just plug in the code readers and off you go with the auto set-up, using the tablet-sized touchscreen. Product changeovers are easily accommodated either by scanning the product, or by using a hand-held scanner to ‘teach’ the system.”
