Young designers embark on cartonboard challenge

Balasz Kovacs

PRO Carton and BPIF Cartons are bringing the Young Designer Award competition to the UK for the second year in a row.

Young designers are tasked with creating a sustainable, functional solution from cartonboard, with the winner set to bag a an Apple iPad worth £500.

Last year saw aspiring packaging designer and London student Balasz Kovacs take home the top prize for his “straight forward yet cleverly-designed” street food carton. Judges praised Kovacs for taking a rising trend and coming up with a cost-effective concept that was easy to use for consumers and vendors.

Tony Hitchin, general manager of Pro Carton said, “We’re delighted to once again be working with BPIF Cartons to home in on UK talent. The Young Designer competition is so important because our aim is twofold: to reward hard work and creativity whilst promoting the use of sustainable materials to the next generation of packaging designers. They are who will continue our mission to reduce plastic waste globally, so it’s vital we engage with them.”
