Weedon PSC targets eCommerce corrugated packaging growth

WEEDON PSC has claimed to be the first UK company to invest in a high-speed taping machine tipped to “revolutionise” the manufacture of eCommerce corrugated packaging.

The company said the machine can apply different types of sealing tape offline, including ‘peel & seal’, enabling the firm to manufacture bespoke packaging for the online retail sector.

The machine is described as being able to apply ripper-tape, double-sided tape and/or ‘peel & seal’ to corrugated packaging at either the beginning or end of the production run. This means customers can have tape applied anywhere on their finished boxes. Both sides of the box can also be printed.

John Weedon, managing director of Weedon PSC said, “Online sales grew 11.5% from 2016 to 2017 and are now worth over €77 billion a year – we expect eCommerce to be one of the fastest growing sectors in the corrugated packaging market over the next year or so.

“Online retail moves the point of impact from the store to the doorstep. As the UK’s leading independent manufacturer of retail ready packaging and point of sale displays, we understand the importance of the ‘wow factor’ and are able to apply this expertise to eCommerce packaging.

“The positioning of sealing and opening tape is a crucial element in the design of eCommerce packaging. This new machine gives us enormous flexibility in how and where the tape is applied, allowing us to offer a wider range of packaging designs to suit our customers’ specific needs.”
