THE finalists have been announced for the inaugural Advancing Healthcare Award at the Medilink UK Healthcare Business Awards 2018.
The award, sponsored by Med-Tech Innovation News, aims to recognise the most innovative products, services, technology and approaches to manufacturing in healthcare on display at this year’s Med-Tech Innovation Expo.
Contract manufacturer Boddingtons Plastics has been nominated for the opening of its £4.6 million injection moulding manufacturing facility, which a spokesperson for the awards said showed the firm’s “commitment to the medical device sector”. Boddingtons Plastic has also been nominated by GE Healthcare as Supplier of the Year.
Product design consultancy Bluefrog Design has been shortlisted for its approach to treating paraesthesia, a complicated skin condition. The company used 3D laser scanning and 3D printing to create a vest that aims to improve a patient’s quality of life.
BioBarica manufactures chambers for the treatment of hyperbaric oxygenation. The Buenos Aires-based firm has been shortlisted for its Revitalair 430 hyperbaric chamber. BioBarica claims it is flexible and portable, and doesn’t carry the explosive and safety hazards associated with high-pressure chambers.
FOBA Laser Marking has been nominated for its new patent-pending technology – a laser marking product that aims to reduce the need for fixtures.
Entries were judged by the content teams behind Med-Tech Innovation News, Medical Plastics News, Digital Health Age and European Pharmaceutical Manufacturer.
Dave Gray, Med-Tech Innovation News editor commented, “It’s been a privilege to be a judge for this award. We’re all about innovations that disrupt the medical landscape for the better – and we’ve landed four finalists who really hit the brief.”
The awards take place on the first day of the Med-Tech Innovation Expo, which will be held 25-26 April at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
