PREMIUM paper and board manufacturer, Tullis Russell is continuing its longstanding partnership with The Royal Caledonian Curling Club as Official Team Sponsors of Scotland’s  Curling Teams at the 2014 European Championships which get underway on Saturday, 22 November in Champéry, Switzerland.

Tullis Russell has been a sponsor of the national teams at European and World Championship level since 2007. The company further cemented its support for the sport this year by again backing the The Royal Caledonian Curling Club “Curling’s Cool” schools programme; an initiative which runs from September to March each year, encouraging school children from all over Scotland into the sport by giving them the opportunity to learn to curl.

Malcolm Sinclair, Export Sales Director at Tullis Russell said, “We’re very proud to sponsor Team Scotland again at the European’s. The team’s medal winning success in this competition has put Scotland firmly on the map in terms of winter sports ability. We wish both teams success at the European championships and beyond, as they strive towards qualifying for the next Olympic Winter Games.”

In the last ten years, Scotland’s men’s and women’s teams have achieved 10 European Championship medals including three Gold, four Silver and three Bronze. At the 2013 European Championships Scotland’s women claimed Silver medal while Scotland’s men took Bronze.

The Championships are a major event in the competitive calendar as Scottish skips, Eve Muirhead and David Edwards, drive their teams on the journey to the next Olympic Winter Games in 2018 in Pyeongchang, Korea. As well as being a Championship in its own right, the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships, now in its 40th year, also act as the European qualifier for the World Championships.

Team Muirhead, which features Olympic Bronze Medallists Anna Sloan and Vicki Adams as well as Sarah Reid and Lauren Gray, earned its place at the European Championships  after winning the Scottish European Playdowns in Perth last month. In the men’s A Division championship, Team Edwards comprises John Penny, Scott MacLeod and Billy Morton with Olympic Silver Medallist Tom Brewster as Alternate.
