KEY industry players are backing a can recycling programme designed to help businesses drive up their recycling rates.
The ‘Every Can Counts’ campaign has been developed by the can manufacturing and recycling industries in partnership with government agency Zero Waste Scotland and soft drinks giant AG Barr.
In Scotland, an estimated 252 million drinks cans are consumed every year outside the home and organisers of the initiative reckon businesses of 50 employees could recycle around 3000 cans each year if everyone took part in a daily recycling routine.
The programme funding partners include: Beverage Can Makers Europe, Can-Pack UK, Novelis, Red Bull, Tata Steel, and UK Can Makers.
It is hoped more businesses across Scotland will participate and as an added incentive it is offering the first 100 firms to sign up a free starter pack, advice and resources.
“The Every Can Counts scheme makes it simple and easy for people to recycle more drinks cans at work and whilst on the go,” said AG Barr’s commercial director Jonathan Kemp.
“It will also help contribute towards achieving the Scottish Government’s national recycling target.”
